Practice cybersecurity reasoning with free READY training related to Google Cybersecurity learning: alert triage, evidence, unknowns and clear incident notes.
Learn Google Cybersecurity through eight connected modules with original READY teaching, worked examples and guided practice. Start with observe before you explain and develop toward hand off the incident. Each lesson connects a concept to a realistic situation so that you can explain your reasoning rather than memorize a label. Use the optional outline to revisit a topic, and keep practice responses and private notes inside your account.
A security observation records what happened, where and when. Keep source timestamps, time zones and identifiers; a suspicious event is a lead to investigate, not proof of compromise. Three failed logins followed by one success could be a mistyped password or an attack. Preserve the event sequence and seek device and session context. The later modules build on this foundation. You will compare alternatives, examine the evidence and identify the limits of a conclusion. The checks give explicit answer feedback. Complete each module after reviewing the lessons and passing its checks, then use the saved course record to see what you have completed and where to continue.
All eight modules are available through a free READY account when the existing Free Training release gate is enabled. You can save, leave, reload and resume your work. This is independent READY learning, not a provider-issued credential or a guarantee of exam readiness. The optional certificate follows existing account eligibility and READY$ policy. Certificate issuance for this updated version remains blocked pending instructional-hour and CEU/CPE review; omission is not an approved substitute. Exam coverage and external credential eligibility are not claimed. Earlier learning records and issued certificates remain separate and retain their original versions.
WHAT YOU’LL PRACTICE
Capabilities you can put to work.
Convert completed exercises into reviewable evidence
Use Linux, SQL, and network context to investigate a defined security question
Separate an observation from an inference and a confirmed fact
Triage alerts and document escalation decisions
Explain when automation is appropriate and where human review remains necessary
Create incident notes that another analyst can understand
Reflect honestly on remaining SOC readiness gaps
YOUR COURSE OUTLINE
Course Modules
Review each module’s focus before you sign in. Your account shows which learning activities are currently available.
01
Observe Before You Explain
+
Read a small authentication log, separate observations from explanations, and write a bounded alert intake with two useful evidence requests.
Learning pace: Self-paced
02
Map Risk and Controls
+
Describe a security risk as a cause-and-consequence scenario, select controls that address it, and design a test of their effectiveness.
Learning pace: Self-paced
03
Investigate with Linux
+
Read a small Linux evidence set, explain permission and log observations, and preserve the boundary between investigation and system changes.
Learning pace: Self-paced
04
Query Security Data with SQL
+
Read and write bounded SELECT queries, handle missing values and joins, and report security findings without confusing rows with incidents.
Learning pace: Self-paced
05
Read Network Activity
+
Interpret a small network evidence set, distinguish addresses and service hints from identity, and request the missing context needed for a bounded finding.
Learning pace: Self-paced
06
Triage and Respond
+
Prioritize a fictional security case, propose proportionate containment, and define evidence-based recovery conditions within assigned authority.
Learning pace: Self-paced
07
Automate with Guardrails
+
Trace a small Python log-analysis function, validate its input, test duplicates and malformed rows, and keep detection separate from response actions.
Learning pace: Self-paced
08
Hand Off the Incident
+
Produce a concise, traceable incident handoff that distinguishes facts, hypotheses, actions, uncertainty, and the next owner’s decision.
Learning pace: Self-paced

Know what’s included.
Is this training free, and how do I start?
The course overview is public. Sign in with a free READY account to use all eight guided modules and save your progress. A free account is required to start learning. Existing members can sign in.
No. Course completion and an optional READY learning certificate are separate from READYScore job-role certification. The member experience shows certificate eligibility and the existing READY$ policy.
Is this an official vendor course or credential?
This original READY course is independent of Google and Coursera. READY does not issue the Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate and is not affiliated with or endorsed by either provider. Training does not guarantee exam success or confer a vendor credential.
Does this assert learning hours or CEU/CPE eligibility?
The member course page shows the current estimated learning time and certificate eligibility. READY learning records do not guarantee that an outside provider will accept CEU/CPE credit; check that provider’s requirements. Existing certificate records are preserved.
